Foreign Secretary Liz Truss or former finance minister Rishi Sunak will soon be named the UK’s next prime minister. Non of them enjoys the public trust, non of them has been elected by the public for the new job.
The result of a ballot of Tory members will be announced just after 12:30 BST at the QE2 conference centre in London.
The winner of the race to replace
Boris Johnson as the next leader of the ruling Conservative Party – and UK’s new prime minister.
The two contenders are Foreign Secretary Liz Truss or former finance minister Rishi Sunak.
The winner becomes prime minister on Tuesday when they will travel to meet the Queen at Balmoral in Scotland.
On Tuesday,
Johnson is expected to deliver a farewell speech and announce his resignation to the Queen, who will then officially appoint either Truss or Sunak as his successor.
The new British prime minister will then form a cabinet, but
Johnson will remain in office until the power transfer is complete.
