Scottish ministers have revealed that the UK Covid Inquiry requested WhatsApp messages nine months ago, contradicting previous statements that the government was only asked to submit such messages in September.
Deputy First Minister Shona Robison provided a detailed timeline of events to the Scottish Parliament following a request from the inquiry.
The inquiry has asked to see WhatsApp messages of 70 officials, medical chiefs, ministers, and former ministers, and identified 137 messaging groups that could contain relevant information. However, it is reported that very few of the messages of interest appear to have been retained.
