Emirates IPO: ‘That is the government’s decision,’ says Sheikh Ahmed

Emirates Airline and the possibility of it going public through an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who is the Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, stated that any decision regarding an Emirates IPO would ultimately be made by the government. He emphasized that the government would make the decision for the airline in this regard.

This statement was made in the context of discussions about the potential privatization or sale of stakes in various state-owned entities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), of which Emirates Airline is one.

Sheikh Ahmed's remarks were made during the Dubai Airshow, where he also commented on competition from Saudi Arabia, stating that competition in the Gulf aviation market is healthy and that there is room for multiple airlines to operate.

Emirates Airline dismissed speculations about acquiring stakes in other international carriers, emphasizing its focus on growing its business within the UAE.
