Care home sets up drive-through for families to see residents in lockdown

Residents at a care home in Berkshire have been reunited with their loved ones thanks to a new drive-through.
Gracewell of Ascot set up the drive-through so its occupants could safely see family during the coronavirus lockdown.

It has been carefully designed by the team at the care home so that all residents remain at a distance and all families will stay in their vehicles.

Care homes have been hit hard by Covid-19, with data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showing the death toll in care homes across the UK had surpassed 10,000 as of May 8.

The UK’s total coronavirus death rate has fallen to its lowest point since the lockdown began in March after another 77 people were confirmed dead on Monday.

NHS England today recorded 59 more deaths in hospitals – but this does not take into account other settings like care homes.

Across all settings, Scotland announced three more deaths, while Wales had seven and Northern Ireland had eight.
